The aim of the Changing Step (North East) C.I.C., Urban Garden Project is to provide a safe haven to assist adults facing chronic exclusion through mental health issues. Horticultural Therapy can provide diversional, social, emotional and cognitive therapy, The value of horticultural therapy is well recognised, particularly for people suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression.
Social and Therapeutic Horticulture is about supporting and developing people to improve their mental and physical health through gardening. At the garden we intend to work with people with disabilities as well as those who are coping with the effects of depression, social isolation and long-term unemployment.
